Shock waves generated by the detonation combustion of gas typically propagate inside of the boiler at some 2,000 meters per second.
Velocities are significantly below values reached by the explosion of e.g. dynamite (velocities >7,000 m/s) but similar to steam soot-blowing.
Exit pressures of the Explosion Generator are set at around 350 bars, and as a result of the three dimensional expansion of the

pressure wave, the maximum pressure is rapidly declining through the boiler.
Exploding bags used for the bang&clean® method generate maximum pressures around 25 bars at the center of the detonation.
Therefore, it is assessed that the forces applied to boiler tubes and walls are unlikely to cause any damage. Ninety percent repeat customers, and over 4,000 cleanings at over 300 facilities prove this point.

 

The Explosion Generator is Inherently Safe

The Explosion Generator was designed for maximum safety for operators and plant. 
During the production, quality checks are carried out including a hydrostatic pressure test. The Explosion Generator is CE-certified as a pressure equipment assembly Cat. II according to the European Pressure Equipment Directive PED, and each unit tested and certified independently.
During an operation cycle the explosive gas mixture is generated

for each cycle independently, and isolated in the high-pressure combustion cylinder.
A PLC controller surveys all important process data and stops the Explosion Generator if a deviation from setting values occurs. Additionally, an alarm is triggered.Prior to each explosion an alarm horn is sounded and a flashing light is activated.
The operation is fully automated; there is no need for operation or actions by the operating crew.

 

Cleaning with the bang&clean method is safe for people and plant

  • Only certified people using our own equipment are allowed to perform on-line cleanings
  • All equipment is individually tested and certified
  • Several barriers of shut-off valves and non-return valves prevent gas leakages, and any back firings
  • The explosive gas mixture is only produced immediately before the explosion
  • Drop dead button for operator to immediately interrupt mixing of gas, filling of bags, and electric ignition, and automatic process to bring system into safe mode.
